'Lighting up Brentwood' and 'stars of the future'
/#teamDSE smashed it! Lyrical solo placed 3rd out of 14 and the dancer was the youngest in her category (12-16yrs). Contemporary trio placed 2nd, we are off to Blackpool for the national final.
Dance Space Essex were thrilled to perform at 'Light up Brentwood' on November 26th. The senior drama group performed 'Red Hot Cinders' a mini rhyming pantomime, two of the G1 Ballet students danced a duet to 'Let it Snow' and our little tapper made some noise to 'Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer,' it was fabulous festive day, #teamDSE!
During our preschool ballet class we board the magic train and journey to a faraway land. One of my little dancers sat at the side, when her mum asked her why she wasn’t joining in, she replied ‘I am waiting for the train’ it’s moments like this that remind me now imaginative and creative young children can be and the importance of improvisation within a dance class.
Improvisation and free movement can often be perceived as children running around, not really learning anything; however they are a vital part of any dance class. Improvisation is a valuable tool in accessing if a child has understood what has been learnt in class and can transfer those skills into free movement. Giving young children the opportunity to explore their movement capabilities develops their ability to take risks and push boundaries when moving. Delving into improvisation and free movement, allows young children to express themselves freely, opening and spontaneously, building confidence not only within dance but all aspects of life.
Dance Space Essex will be hosting a 'Day of Dance' in the summer holidays, on Wednesday 29th July at the Brentwood Baptist Church, 10am-1pm for children 5+ years of age and above, the cost of the day is £15.00.
It will be an amazing fun day of training. I have guest choreographer Greg Mcpherson who is head of the foundation course at Urdang Academy one of the most prestigious dance colleges in London teaching a commercial dance master class. Greg is a leading dancer and choreographer, whose credits range from Ray Charles, Footloose, The Brits, Girls Aloud, Sugar Babes and Little Mix, alongside this I will be teaching a contemporary lyrical master class incorporating props. At the end of the day students will perform a short demonstration where friends and family are invited to watch.
Please email nicole@dancespaceessex.com to book your child a place on the 'Day of Dance', places will be limited, so please ensure you book early.
